Bachelor's thesis: A PIECE OF MEAT IN RUNNING SHOES.

ABSTRACT: Street harassment is a widely spread phenomenon in Austria. Studies found that runners in particularly get harassed very often, during training. The answer to the research question of this paper—how to attract attention to such a topic—is a social media campaign. While street harassment has been seen as a problem of women for a long time, we now can say that it is a problem that affects the whole society. When groups of people that differ from the stereotypical, heteronormative white male model get marginalized, old positions of power can be maintained. Even though public places should be accessible for everyone, some people feel not welcomed.

An educational campaign on the platform instagram should give viewers information on the topic, tips, and experiences to gain a better understanding of the topic. An informative and inclusive graphic design and different approaches on the topic should appeal to a large audience. The campaign uses instagram because the platform already hosts many groups that are specialized on equality, human rights and feminism.

Expert opinions from three different perspectives give a broad overview on the topic. A psychological expert explains why perpetrator harass publicly; through a political approach an expert points out what still can be done; and runners offer insights on their experiences and give tips for others.
